On Saturday, April 01, 2006, Mr. Detlev Truernit, General Manager of Grand Hyatt Bali appointed Dr. Sanjay Khanzode as Director of Spa and Recreation for setting up and opening Kriya Spa in an effort to enhance and upgrade the existing resort facilities. Dr. Sanjay, a seasoned spa professional with over 18 years of experience in the spa and wellness field, joined Hyatt Spas in 2002 as a Spa Director at the Park Hyatt Goa in India. He brings to Grand Hyatt Bali, an extensive knowledge in Medical, Health & Beauty science and experience of managing top of the line international spas in the country, which has earned him international recognition. Also a trained practitioner of aesthetics, and preventive medicine, Dr. Sanjay has brought to the spa environment a holistic approach to the management of the lifestyle challenges of today’s world. Trained as a medical practitioner with a bachelor’s degree in Medicine, Dr. Sanjay went on to pursue his advanced training in Wellness, Aesthetics and Cosmetology from the Bretlands Beauty Training Centre, England. During the course of his CIDESCO and CIBTAC studies he also acquired specialized training in Stress management and alternative therapies like Dead Sea Mineral treatments. Further to his main role in Hyatt Regency Bali and Grand Hyatt Bali as Cluster Director of Spa and Recreation, Dr. Sanjay is also a part of the Global Hyatt’s prestigious group of Wellness Specialists, a group of Hyatt individuals selected due to their particular specialty or expertise that is valued and needed by Hyatt hotels around the world. As a Wellness Specialist, his role is to attend to any hotel seeking assistance in new spa openings, assist Hyatt Spas in training and devising new treatments, as well as helping in operations or conduct MORs should such actions be required. Prior to moving to Bali, he was Spa Director at Park Hyatt Goa, Resort and Spa, which was voted as number one Spa in the World by Conde Nast Traveler Reader’s Spa Choice award for 2005-2006. In his position as Spa Director, Park Hyatt Goa Resort and Spa, Dr. Sanjay played a leading role in creating unique spa therapy programs addressing wide variety of conditions ranging from stress and weight management to detoxification and rejuvenation. He also introduced new beauty and body therapies combining the Indian traditions of Yoga and Ayurveda with the latest international therapy concepts. During his tenure with Hyatt Spas and Grand Hyatt Bali, Dr. Sanjay has had the opportunity to support other Hyatt properties in pre–opening, operational set ups , treatments training which include Tian Spa – Park Hyatt Beijing, Nagomi Spa – Grand Hyatt Tokyo, AO Spa at Andaz Tokyo, I sawan spa at Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok, Plateau at Grand Hyatt Hong Kong, Barai Spa at Hyatt Regency Hua Hin, Damai Spa at Grand Hyatt Singapore, Isala Spa at Grand Hyatt Macau, Yue Hu Spa at Park Hyatt Ningbo, Antahpura spa at Park Hyatt Chennai, The Spa at Park Hyatt Hyderabad, Shamana Spa at Grand Hyatt Goa, Vie Spa at Hyatt Regency Danang, Essa Spa at Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur, Grand Hyatt Mumbai, Hyatt Regency Kolkatta, Hyatt Regency Mumbai, Hyatt Regency Pune, Hyatt Regency Chennai and Hyatt Regency New Delhi. Dr. Sanjay started his career as spa executive of Rajvilas, an Oberoi hotel, where he was mainly responsible for daily operations management, conceptualizing the spa treatment menu plan and training spa therapists for international levels of spa therapy certification. His other previous positions include Spa Medicine/Wellness services Director at Ananda, The Himalayas, voted “Best Destination Spa in the world by Conde Nast Traveler Reader’s Spa Choice Award 2003”, Spa Physician/Manager at Mandarin Oriental Ananda, The Himalayas, India. Dr. Sanjay has an honored to be a guest lecture at the Annual CSI Conference (Cosmetologists Society of India), lectured on “Transition and Development of Day Spa from Beauty Salon” in 1999. An avid reader and a foodie, his own idea of relaxation is being with friends and family.
